Library visit

We took a trip to the Library Tuesday morning.  Abigail's sound for the week was the short /oo/ sound like in "book".  It seemed fitting that this be the week that we get back into the routine of going.  The girls were very excited about, Samuel had no idea what was going on.  We have not been since he started walking :) So, first things first we had a talk, before entering, about being on our best behavior and how we have to whisper in the library. 

We actually happened upon pre-school "story hour".  We were a little late but the kids got to make a Mardi Gra mask and had a snack.  From what I could tell it is put on by 2 local moms.  The group meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.  So we may give it a whirl and see what kind of stuff they do.

After "story hour" was over we headed to look for books.  Before the kiddos starting grabbing books I handed them a place marker, our library uses the wooden paint stir sticks, and showed them how to place the stick on the shelf before they removed the book that they wanted to look at.  I let them know that we were supposed to do this so that when we were done looking at the book we could remember where it belonged on the shelf.

The big girls had a good time looking through book, completely based on the covers :) Which meant that they were only choosing the ones on the end b/c they were the only ones that had their covers exposed.  They each chose 3 to bring home.

I chose some books about tools for Samuel.  He pretty much just walked around the whole time taking in the new sights.

Rebekah crawled the isle for a while until she found the child magazine section.  I then realized I would need to put an end to that activity.  I figured they would probably like to keep the pages inside of their magazine covers. 

Best find of the day by far was, Baby on theWay, William Sears, M.D., Martha Sears, R.N., and Christie Watts Kelly.

The book explains how Mommy may be feeling, what is happening with her body, how they can help Mommy and Daddy, and what to expected once the baby arrives. This book seems to address some of the more curious questions that the big girls have been asking lately and it answers them in a way that they can really relate to and understand. 

I am so glad that I found this book.  We have already read it several times.  I will probably recheck it so that I can have it on hand as Shepherd's birth day gets closer.

Book report

The title of this post is definitely an inaccurate description of what is about to take place. But I didn't know what else to call it :) I will not write a book report at this time. I actually remember the first book report that I ever wrote. It was about the white rabbit with the red eyes, sounds scary. I think it may have been Mrs. Dwyers class. Weird that I remember that. Maybe because I was terrified and did not like to read. Honestly it was a struggle for me.
Anywho... I did finish another book. I know, long time coming! I really missed the mark on one book a month.

I have started another Grisham, The Appeal. So maybe you will get another "report" in the future. No pressure though.

February book

I finally finished my Feb. book, the Olympics put me really far behind. I basically didn't read for the whole two weeks. I also ended up reading a different book than I said I was gonna read. I found a book that I started several months ago and thought I lost. The Last Juror, by John Grisham ended up being a great novel. It was a slow start for me but half way through it really got exciting and had a very sad ending. Now I will try and finish, The Five Love Languages of Children, by the end of March and I will let you know what I think.

January Book of the Month

I finished, The Secret Garden, my book for January. And it was not just any copy of the book it was my Mama's and it was given to her as a Christmas present when she was 11 years old from her Grandmother. There is even an inscription on the cover page that reads,

I never met my Great Grandmother so this is pretty cool and pretty old! Love ya Mama, your not old just the book :)

I enjoyed the read, not at the very beginning, but I pushed through. It was not very enjoyable for me to read about an unpleasant little girl that lived in India. I am glad that I stuck with it. Now I have read another great classic and I have pre-read so that I can read it to the kids someday.

My book for February is, The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell. I am excited to get started and it probably will not take the whole month, so I am open to suggestions on a good fiction to enjoy next.

Late bloomer

So it seems I am a late bloomer in the reading department. My poor mom tried so hard to instill a love for reading in both my brother and I. She is one of those people that is always reading, riding in the car, on the boat, with the TV on, always and anywhere. Well until recently she had just missed the mark. I realize now it was a focus thing for me. Even if I thought a book was good, it was never good enough to keep my attention over all the other things in my life. I have always read Non fictions Christian books, but just within the last 2 years have I started reading Fiction. I started out reading juvenile fiction but have since stepped it up a notch and read a few classics, you know those ones we were all supposed to read in High School. I now LOVE to read! I just finished my first "grown up" fiction novel

It was fantastic. If you have not read it I highly recommend it! I am now finishing a Non-fiction Christian book that I started several months again. Which, I also highly recommend to all of you homeschooling mothers out there. It is a Fantastic encouraging read!
and I have started another Grisham novel. That's right people, two books at once! I am my mothers daughter!
